Agnipath Scheme: Plan to Recruit Over 40,000 Agniveers
Under the ‘Agnipath Scheme,’ the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force will recruit about 40,000 to 45,000 young people every year. The age limit for these recruits will be between 17.5 to 23 years. These soldiers will be called ‘Agniveers’ and will have a rank different from the existing ranks in the army.
Benefits of the Agniveer Scheme
The Agniveer Scheme offers Agniveers skill training during their 4 years of service, preparing them better for future jobs. Along with this, Agniveers will receive a good salary during their service, helping them save money for the future. Under the National Education Policy, they will also receive credit points for the training they undergo, which can help them with further studies.
Job Opportunities and Reservations
After completing 4 years of service, Agniveers will be given a 10% reservation in Central Paramilitary Forces like CISF, BSF, CRPF, and SSB. Additionally, the Haryana government has announced a 10% reservation for Agniveers in police recruitment and mining guard jobs. In Haryana, they will also get a 5% reservation in Group C jobs and an interest-free loan of up to 5 lakhs to start their own businesses.
Agniveer Salary and Savings: Earn Up to 23 Lakhs
During their 4 years of service, Agniveers will receive a monthly salary, starting from 30,000 rupees in the first year and going up to 40,000 rupees in the fourth year. A 30% contribution will be deducted from their monthly salary for a service fund, and the government will contribute an equal amount. At the end of 4 years, Agniveers will receive a total of 23 lakhs 43 thousand 160 rupees, which includes their salary and retirement fund. The good news is, this amount will be tax-free.
Salary Breakdown:
- First year: 21,000×12 = 2,52,000 rupees
- Second year: 23,100×12 = 2,77,200 rupees
- Third year: 25,580×12 = 3,06,960 rupees
- Fourth year: 28,000×12 = 3,36,000 rupees
- Total salary: 11,72,160 rupees
Compensation for Martyrdom or Disability
In case of martyrdom during service, the government will provide the family of the Agniveer with a life insurance cover of 48 lakhs, an ex-gratia amount of 44 lakhs, and the salary for the remaining service period. In addition, the service fund and government contribution will also be given to the family.
If an Agniveer becomes disabled during duty, they will receive compensation based on the level of disability. For 100% disability, the compensation is 44 lakhs, for 50% disability, it is 25 lakhs, and for 25% disability, it is 15 lakhs. They will also receive the service fund and government contribution.
Future Opportunities After Agniveer Service
After 4 years of service, up to 25% of Agniveers will be offered a permanent job in the army. The remaining 75% of Agniveers will be given priority in jobs with CAPFs, Assam Rifles, and other government sectors. Many private companies have also promised to provide jobs to Agniveers. During the 4 years of service, Agniveers can also complete a graduation degree course, which will be recognized both in India and abroad.
